William Walter “Bill” Shelnutt

Bill was born in Birmingham, and was graduated from Woodlawn High School where he played for the City and County championship football teams, and was voted second team all-state honors. Although he was offered many college scholarships, Bill opted to serve his country and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

After his Honorable Discharge, he continued to serve his community as a Birmingham Police Officer, retiring at the rank of lieutenant. After retirement from the force, Bill served as Chief of Police for the Jefferson State Police Department.  During all this time, and thereafter, Bill exercised the passion of his life – training young men and women to excel at athletics – especially track and field. He never got paid; his reward was seeing his young athletes excel.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Joyal and Bernice, and by a sister Jane Easter. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patsy, and their three children: Shay (Paige), Shane (Christy), and Shannon, (Tony); his brothers Robert “Bob”, and Joyal, “Budd”; his sisters Joy Edwards and Jill Hayes: as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and dear friends.

Services are to be held at the Palmerdale United Methodist Church, this Saturday July 2nd at 11 O’clock A.M. Officiating are the Reverend Kevin Payne, and the Reverend Tony Jones. In lieu of flowers make donations to Royal Family Kids Camp through Palmerdale Methodist Church, P.O. Box 192, Palmerdale, Al 35123.

Molly Ellis Tyner Boland

Molly Ellis Tyner Boland went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, August 25, 2016. She brought out the best in everyone she met.  Her time on this earth may have only been 24 years but the impact she had on others will live on for generations to come! Described by many as a perfectionist, genuine, driven, and loving….. she literally willed you to be better, whatever the task.
She loved everyone, and everyone loved Molly! Her family has always joked that she knew everyone and everything about everybody – and loved them anyway! A peacemaker and leader from an early age, she excelled in school, especially math and science. That trait would serve her well in her educational pursuits. She graduated with honors from Clinton High School in 2010 and was elected by the faculty to the schools Hall of Fame. She then graduated from Millsaps College in 2014 with a BS in Chemistry. After graduation she was accepted into the PhD program in Immunology at The University of Alabama –Birmingham.  Molly had a desire to see research done that would assist patients and families with diseases like Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and HLH, the disease that ultimately took her sister’s life. Already published 3 times for her research, she was well on her way to making a difference. Her drive and passion for research and new discoveries made everyone around her work harder to live up to her high standards.
Molly BolandMolly loved sports, especially fast-pitch softball. As a pitcher, she loved competition, and she experienced a lot of success at Clinton High School, with Mississippi Blast, and through her 4 years at Millsaps College. Equally as important as the sport to her, Molly valued her teammates, who became lifelong friends. She also loved to coach, first with the Mississippi Blast tournament ball team in Clinton, MS and later with the Twisters in Birmingham AL. In addition to coaching and private lessons, she drove all over Alabama to attend “her girls” high school games and signing days. Those girls would tell you that she had a passion for softball as well as for life, and she wanted her teams to be successful on and off the field. Her authentic, engaging personality and a contagious smile were assets wherever she went. She had an uncanny ability to connect with people and build community in any situation.
She was always active in her church and a leader in choir and Sunday school. She was also a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athlete huddles at Clinton High School and later at Millsaps College. Molly always shared her faith in Christ, but after her sister’s death vowed to never let a day go by that she didn’t share Jesus with someone. She loved people and had the unique ability to see everyone through the eyes of Jesus!
Molly’s other love was her family. Most people are content to just know the names of their extended family, but she genuinely cared about everyone.  Molly loved her sister, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and even “unofficial” relatives. They were constantly on her mind and she remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and other special days. Family reunions and other gatherings were a particular joy to Molly.
Molly was preceded in death by her older sister, Perry Tyner Tate and maternal grandfather, Gene Triggs. Molly will be greatly missed by the love of her life, Derrik Boland, her husband of just over two years of Birmingham, AL; her parents, William and Joy Tyner of Trussville,  AL;  her brother, Garon Tate of Clinton, MS; and close family friend, Jana Carter of Clinton, MS. She will also be missed by her maternal grandmother, Robbie Triggs of Clinton, MS; paternal grandparents, Dr. Fred and Jane Tyner of Starkville, MS; in-laws Keith and Shelia Boland and Robert and Rhonda Patterson, all of Nettleton, MS. Molly will also be missed by numerous great uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and a host of special teammates and friends.
Uncles and aunts are Austin and Dr. Betsy Triggs of Nashville, TN; Charlie and Angie Tyner of Collierville, TN. Cousins are Elizabeth Triggs of Nashville, TN; Andrew Triggs of Oakland, CA; John Luke Tyner, Ryan Tyner, and Logan Tyner all of Collierville, TN.
There will be a visitation to honor Molly Tyner Boland in Birmingham on Tuesday, August 30th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Valleydale Church located at 2324 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 35244. Her funeral will be Saturday morning, September 3 at 11:00 at FBC located at 100 E College St, Clinton, MS 39056. Visitation will also be at the FBC Friday, September 2, 4:00-8:00 and Saturday 9:00-11:00. Immediately following the service, Molly will be buried next to her sister at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209.
For those considering a gift in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to:
*The William J Koopman Arthritis Research Endowment at UAB, c/o Megann Bates Cain, 1808 Seventh Avenue South, BDB 420, Birmingham AL 35294-0012 (205)934-7406

*Millsaps College, c/o Coach Erin Clary, claryee@millsaps.edu  (601) 974-1177
Molly would probably close with this:  Know Jesus….. Go Arrows, Go Majors/ Fear the Sword, and Roll Tide!
